About
the Music
I began
writing music around 1994-95. I was doing oil field
construction (I’m an electrician/instrument technician
by trade) off of the coast of West Africa, where I would
spend the days with music playing in my head. Frankly, I
started writing because I wanted to play songs, and
didn’t want to be compared to someone else. I didn’t think my
voice was any good, and I figured if the songs were
original, I couldn’t be compared to George Strait, or
Travis Tritt.
After writing a couple of songs, I discovered how
much I enjoyed the process, so I
continued.
Working a rotation of
three months overseas and one month at home gave me lots
of time to write music but kept me away from my new
sport bullfighting. Getting in the practice pen one
month out of four was not enough. I quit the oilfield in
December of 97 and came home to Mississippi to find work
and rodeo.
I had seen
one rodeo in high school, and saw immediately that the
bullfighter had the best job. The bullriders
only got to be in one play of the game. The bullfighters
played the whole game. I always remembered that
rodeo but I
didn’t know anyone who was involved . Years later, I met
some rodeo cowboys. After I told them that I had always
wanted to try fighting bulls they told me about a
practice pen and when to show up. I showed up and
it was just as I thought I loved it! I then joined my
two loves and started writing songs about rodeo and
cowboy stuff.
This first album is part of the results. I already have
enough material for two more albums. I hope to start
on the next one in the spring of 2005. STAY
TUNED!
